CA Clean Energy Jobs Act Announces Proposition Number for November 2012 Ballot

Last month we announced the launch of a website for the California Clean Energy Jobs Act.  In August, proposition numbers were assigned to all initiatives on the 2012 November ballot.  The CA Clean Energy Jobs Act is now known as Proposition 39.

Earthsite helped with the initiative’s re-branding efforts with the redesign of the website which is now titled Yes on 39!

California Proposition 39 aims to close a tax loophole that allows out-of-state corporations to pay lower taxes in California.  Proposition 39 will force out-of-state corporations to pay their fair share, bringing in much-needed state revenue that will be invested in clean energy and energy efficiency projects, create good-paying jobs, and help fund CA schools.

Earthsite Designs New Website for the California Clean Energy Jobs Act

cleanenergyjobsact_screenshot_2 copy.jpg

An outrageous tax loophole allows out-of-state corporations to pay lower taxes in California, costing California a billion dollars a year. This loophole actually rewards companies for creating jobs outside of California. The California Clean Energy Jobs Act closes this loophole by forcing out-of-state corporations to pay their fair share, bringing in much-needed state revenue that will be invested in clean energy and energy efficiency projects, create good-paying jobs, and help fund our schools.

Earthsite designed a website for the California Clean Energy Jobs Act and will be managing social media for the campaign.

A Flex Alert is an urgent call to Californians to immediately conserve electricity and to shift demand to off-peak hours (after 6 p.m.). The Flex Alert campaign is an educational and emergency alert program that informs consumers about how and when to conserve electricity. The public awareness campaign is critical to achieving high levels of conservation during heat waves and other challenging grid conditions such as wildfires or when major power plant or power lines are unavailable.

This summer California will be at critical risk for rolling blackouts and power shortages. While California has been highly successful in curbing energy demand during peak (high-usage) hours in the past, this summer’s conditions may demand more serious attention than those in previous years.

Maker Faire 2012: From Robots to Bamboo Bikes

This past weekend we had a chance to spend the day at the 7th Annual Maker Faire event in San Mateo, CA.  The event is put on by Make magazine, a magazine dedicated to the do-it-yourself community.  The event was chock full of intventors and entrepreneurs who are using mostly reused resources to build everything from robots to bamboo bikes.

This year there was a Homegrown Village that featured an array of sustainability projects.  We saw snails, compost, bees and even got to try some probiotic soda.

This is a great event for the whole family with lots of hands on projects for kids and robots of course. We even spotted Wall-E at one point!

Some tips for getting there: carpool or take public transportation, get there early and be prepared to wait in some lines as the parking lots fill up quickly!

It’s Time to Take a Stand!

We recently took a stand here at Earthsite and decided to raise our desks.  That’s right!  We are now a standing office.  And it feels oh so good.  There have been a slew of articles coming out recently about the downsides of sitting all day.

Below is an infographic by called Sitting is Killing You, that is worth checking out.

Are you willing to take a stand too?  Leave us a comment.  We would love to know what you are doing in your office to address this.
